The GPSMAP 551S is a sounder enabled device which means you have the option of connecting a powerful dual frequency or dual beam transducer
that clearly paints depth contours, fish targets and structure whether you're fishing in seawater or freshwater lakes.
The GPSMAP 551s is also NMEA 2000-compatible for easy connectivity with sensors, instruments and future marine offerings.

For ease of installation we recommend transom mount transducers. While a dual frequency transducer is suitable for both seawater and freshwater use, if you intend to use your sounder mostly on freshwater lakes, a single frequency dual beam transducer is more suitable because one of the beams has a wide beam angle which covers a greater volume of water and is especially useful in shallows.
