Overview
Bavaria is the largest German state by area, forming almost 20% of the total land area of Germany. The state of Bavaria covers Lake Constance, Franconia, the capital city Munich, and the Alps. The Bavarian Alps offer some of Germany's most breathtaking views. From the slopes of these ancient mountains, one can admire the German landscape in all of its glory. All sorts of wonderful outdoor activities are available to those visiting Bavaria. In the Alps, fantastic hiking opportunities are available during the summer, and brilliant skiing during the winter. Other outdoor activities are readily available, with hundreds of cycle routes, long-distance hiking tours and cycle hire available around the many lakes, along the rivers and cross-country throughout the region.
