Overview

The Cleveland Way is a horseshoe shaped route, most of which runs through the North Yorks National Park and along the North Yorkshire and Cleveland Heritage Coast. This gives the path a unique character as it travels across the largest area of heather moorland in England, giving far reaching views over the Dales and then down to rugged coastline of dramatic sea cliffs and picturesque fishing villages. All around is evidence of the local history, with the bronze age burial mounds, the remains of Roman signal stations, the breathtaking ruins of Rievaulx Abbey, and of course the heritage of the explorer, Captain Cook. Length of path 176km/109miles.
