Overview

The great plains of Castilla-La Mancha and its four National Parks offer a multitude of opportunities for exploring unusual environments such as the wetlands of Tablas de Daimiel and the Lagunas de Ruidera, together forming one of Spain´s many UNESCO Biosphere Reserves. These lagoons, once nicknamed “The Mirrors of La Mancha" provided the backdrop to one of literature´s most famous knights: Don Quixote. The city of Toledo has a long history of peacefully coexisting cultures, leaving it with an impressive cultural legacy and diversity. The Renaissance artist El Greco, spent much of his life there. The adjacent region of Extremadura is made up of vast stretches of plains and three mountain formations. Cáceres and Mérida are two beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Cities and the Monfragüe National Park offer interesting sites to visit. Nestled between these two regions, Spain´s capital Madrid holds a strong position as economic and cultural hub, embracing both its modernity and history with over 73 museums.
