A hillwalking resource for Ireland. Mountainviews has over 250 members and hillwalking enthusiasts who have built this site as a place for everyone to learn and talk about walking in the mountains. The site is managed as a free resource by the very capable Simon Stewart who has spent many hours building an excellent and informative site. POI data can be freely downloaded (link). This site is the best of it's kind and demonstrates what can be produced with more than a little dedication and enthusiam.

As a state body the OSI is responsible for providing quality mapping and geographic information services to the public and private sectors in support of social, economic, legislative, security, business and administrative functions and requirements. The OSI have produced the Trail Master series which is a DVD, PC compatible, interactive mapping tool for the outdoor enthusiast that enables users to plan and create walking, cycling and hiking routes using OSi mapping, aerial photography and height models. There are four Trail Master DVD's for selected regions of the country: East, South, West & Shannon.

The European Space Agency is Europe's gateway to space. Its mission is to shape the development of Europe's space capability and ensure that investment in space continues to deliver benefits to the citizens of Europe. Of more importance to satellite navigation, the ESA is involved with the European Commission (EC) and Eurocontrol, the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation in a joint project called the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service or EGNOS. The aim of EGNOS is augment the two military satellite navigation systems now operating, the US GPS and Russian GLONASS systems, and provide users in Europe with accurate and reliable GPS signals to within 5m accuracy compared to about 20m at present.
